About

About the Firm

Aspen Accounting & Advisory was founded with a simple belief: small businesses and nonprofits deserve high-quality financial support without the overwhelming price tag or unnecessary complexity.

After years in public accounting at a large firm, Aspen saw firsthand the value of well-done bookkeeping and advisory services—and also how out of reach those services were for many organizations. While the work was thorough and professional, the cost and bureaucracy often made it unsustainable for the very clients who needed it most.

Aspen Accounting & Advisory was created to bridge that gap. The firm delivers the same level of care, accuracy, and professionalism found at large firms, paired with the flexibility to do what’s truly best for each client. Without layers of red tape, services are more responsive, more personal, and more cost-effective.

At its core, Aspen Accounting & Advisory is driven by a genuine passion for supporting small businesses and nonprofits. Every engagement is rooted in partnership, transparency, and a commitment to helping organizations build strong financial foundations that support their mission and growth.

Meet Aspen Axelman

Aspen Axelman is a CPA and CMA with a lifelong passion for accounting, finance, and helping organizations succeed. That passion began with her first accounting course in high school and has guided every step of her career since.

Raised in small-town Montana, Aspen always knew she wanted to explore beyond what she grew up with. She moved to New Mexico for college and later settled in North Carolina, where she found a strong sense of community and plans to stay for the long term.

After college, Aspen spent over five years in public accounting at a top 10 firm, building deep experience supporting nonprofit organizations and technology companies through bookkeeping, part-time controller work, and financial advisory services. While she valued the high standards and technical rigor of large firm work, she ultimately felt called to take a more personal and flexible approach to serving clients.

Outside of client work, Aspen stays closely connected to the nonprofit and accounting communities. She serves on the board of First in Families of North Carolina and enjoys being involved with the local accounting profession.

Today, Aspen brings the same level of quality and care she developed in public accounting to Aspen Accounting and Advisory, delivering accessible, high quality financial support that helps small businesses and nonprofits operate with clarity and intention.
